Four Days Till Xmas

Hello Everyone I hope all are having a wonderful day as this report will be a long one cause I have something to say today. Hump day and I have to say we’ve been humping at the job for sure. Busy hasn’t been the word for it. To recap the week, Monday went along well as I heard the reports over the weekend. The holidays have folks doing the sick call in thing (Six I heard called in over the weekend.) but lucky we have a policy in place that you can’t call in sick three days before a holiday and three days after without a legitimate doctor’s excuse as folks have been abusing their sick time in the past. We only get 48 hours of unexcused absents a year. (Some are saying 48 hours? That’s six working hour days) Once you reach that or pass 48 hours then you're sent to the head office to meet with the Director for a valid reason why you missed over the allotted time. In the meantime one can only accumulated 400 hours of sick time to show on the books any thing you accumulate after that will not be added. Since the 23rd and the 26th are holidays this year for us the calling in thing will stop for sure on the 20th.

Tuesday I thought my worst nightmare had come true when I predicted that they (Meaning our head Juvenile detention Center) would send me 10 new intakes on Tuesday. When I called in to prepare myself for what was to come my work wife asked me, “Guess how many we’re getting?” I replied, “10.” All she could do was laugh. However when my Superintendent found out how many they were sending us she made a phone call and they cut it back to six. Still a lot of paper work but I got the job done. So busy I didn’t have time to log on and chat that day. The other four they were going to send Wednesday. Coming home Tuesday and thoroughly exhausted from the day the next day I was prepared to receive the four that were left well today when I got to work there were two more added to the list which gave me a total of six again, twelve for the week. Of course I wasn’t too happy about it but what could I do. I got myself together and did what I needed to do not to mention this was my early day to leave and they usually didn’t arrive until four in the afternoon so that meant I would be humping again today. However my co workers got on the ball and got the paper work to me right away as I was finished shortly after eight this evening? Besides most of them wanted to attend the facility Xmas party they had set up. I wasn’t going to attend as I made my appearance at the major party for all the facilities. Since I’m not one to go to clubs and things I just wished them well and all have a good time as I’ll see them at work tomorrow. Just our luck the piss test lady will be there tomorrow to test them all. LOL Oh well at least mine will be clean. Speaking of tomorrow things should be a little slow for us but we’ll have parents calling to see if their child has earned an extended home visit this weekend. Friday and Monday (Our Xmas holidays) I will be going in early (In which I’m not looking forward to doing, I usually take them off but since we’ll be short handed.) as there will only be me and one other Officer in administration that can release the kids that day. There are seven of us and four are on vacation or regular days off. Looks like I’ll be doing a little over time this Friday but I’ll be leaving early so I many see if my best friend Steve wants to do dinner that night. I’ll give him a call on Thursday to see if we’re set.

I talked with my Ex on Tuesday he and the kids are going to Oklahoma Christmas day and will be gone until the third of January since the kids won’t start back until after the 5th. It's a shame that a city as large as Houston had to loose its Amusement park. It would have been nice to take the kids to “Holiday In The Park” at Astro World Six Flags of Texas since most of them have never been there either. Now one has to go out of town for that. He tells me he’s been feeling a little worst for wear and the symptoms he’s described to me sound like pneumonia. He’s suppose to go get that checked but he says he can’t go until Monday and he’ll be out of town on Monday. I know how he’ll put it off and that kind of worries me. Even though we’re not partners more like lovers now and good friends one doesn’t stop caring for someone either. Let’s hope he will do the right thing here soon and get it checked. Well there are only four more days until Xmas and nine till a new year. I for one am glad it’s almost over.

It’s been really crazy here in the city and with the Katrina Evacuee’s here crime has gone up but HPD has stepped up to the plate and doing they’re job. Today I was watching on the internet news that an evacuee was in a car chase and wasn’t going to give up peacefully but lucky the chase only last 30 minutes and they caught they’re man after some extensive damage to the vehicle he was driving and in a residential neighborhood at that in some areas of town. Monday there was a round up of Sex offenders and violent criminals, 29 to be exact so far, that were found through FEMA living in and around the Houston area but FEMA wasn’t giving up their info so easily to help in the efforts. Reports say that FEMA was giving very lame excuses as to why they weren’t giving up their info so easy. After HPD kept pressing the issue FEMA finally giving in. 9 of the 29 were located and arrested. I’m all for helping out folks that have lost everything but one has to look at what’s been going on since they’ve been here as well. Seems like everyday we’re hearing reports about evacuees. For the most part not good ones either. Still there have been some positive up lifts as Oparh was here and gave way 50 homes with the help of Humana for Habitat to 50 needy families on a street called Angle Lane named after here Angle Network located just a short drive out side the city area. Homes will be fully furnished as well. There is a draw back to this as there are no shops or stores near by. With the majority of them with no transportation a taxi ride to the nearest grocery store would cost at least 30 bucks. Walking would be difficult as well for they can on carry so much but the city is looking into getting bus service in the area so things maybe looking up for them soon.

I see Sir Elton John got married today as well. Good for him and I hear from my friends in the UK that there will be over seven hundred guest at the reception. One of my friends told me it’ll probable be all drag queens. You think someone is jealous? Knowing him I would think a few stars may show up. They do make a nice looking couple. Over all except for Monday it’s been a busy week. Good news my Boss won’t be back until Tuesday so that’s a good deal. We actually get more work done when she’s not there than when she is go figure that one out. Makes you want to sing a tune from the Wizard of OZ.  “Ding dong the witch is gone the wicked witch the witch is gone. High how the merry O sign it high sing it low ding done the wicked witch is gone.”  I keep telling everyone our facility is like The Wizard of OZ. the kids are the munchkins and the rest of the characters, well just take your pick. “Put hum up, put hum up.” Now if some only had a brain, A heart and a Home. HEHEHHEHHE. I just may rewrite that story using my co workers as cast members. LOL . Well on that note I’m going to give it a rest here so until fingers meet keys all be safe and if this is your last chance to read my blog before Xmas. Have a happy and Safe Xmas and looking forward t hearing how things went during your Holidays. Big hugs to all and MERRY XMAS every one.
