Happy New Year.

WOW! A new year is upon us and I for one am happy to have it move forward. It’s been over six months since I’ve written on here and a lot has happened indeed, One being my father passing August 31. That was really hard on me as one thinks he’s ready for that but until it happens you never know. I think I took it hardest as I was closet to my father; we buried him next to my nephew who passed a year and a half earlier so they will keep each other company. Funny how it takes something like that to bring folks together. Two deaths on two years, well that was enough to do me in. I was really exhausted from the ordeal and really just now getting back on track. I’ve had my moments but I recover well. My mother is doing well and still working at 74 years old. So long as she keeps going that old bird will live on.
Seven more month from now I will turn the big 5 0. Am I looking forward to it? At this point in my life I’m just happy to be alive. When I turned 40 I really had no concept as to what my future might hold for me. I’ve done a lot of soul searching and feel I have my head rolling in the right direction and surely more mature than I was ten years ago. I’m finally in a place that I’m at peace and happy with myself and my partner. I have to say over all life wasn’t so bad. Even though the economy took a turn for the worst I managed to stay above it and still be in a good finical place. I guess I have to thank Dave Ramsey for that. I listen to his show every day on the way to work and to hear folks and their troubles well mine were very small compared to theirs. I got out of debt at the beginning of last year and it was a wonderful feeling to not have to pay Xmas bills at the end of January and even better this year also.
My best friend Steve has a new love interest and he’s gone thought some situation this year also. Over all I think this person is really good for him and I see a change in him that I haven’t seen in him in a long time. I just hope it’s not a phase for him. It’s just totally out of character for him but he says he’s been enjoying the company and he can’t explain it but this person makes him feel like he hasn’t felt in a long time. Went to dinner at the lovers house Friday for dinner and there were two other lesbian couples there and we actually had a wonderful time. Great conversation and all, Loved the birds also. Food was off the chain as I’m a very finicky eater. I don’t like to say I wish Steve luck in his new venture as it makes it seem like I seeing it failing before it got started. So I say, “Continues success on the new relationship. May you have many more years a head of you?”
Publication, well it’s back on track and the next issue will be out soon. Hiatus is the word to use. Lots of ups and down with that but this year we think we have it right and back on track. One never knows about business. The economy had a lot to do with it especially in sales but things are turning around indeed and things are picking up. Believe it or not I still get sales and the site gets hit about 120 to 150 times a month. I’ll be posting the next cover on here soon also.
Houston has a new Gay Major and the second woman to take office. Is the rest of the US watching us or what? The last one was Katy Whitmire did a great job and the city was in better shape than it even was. She really came to fame when the movie Tooties was released staring Dustin Hoffman. Over all folks thought she was gay also but she was married and her husband passed away in 1976 and she never remarried since him. Now that we have an openly gay Major well the rest of the US took noticed as it’s reported that a city as big as Houston has never has an openly gay major before. Does it make a big difference? So seem to think do and she has fought on gay rights also. I personally think she will keep this city I great condition after all every time I looks around I see all the different licenses plates from other states here, so we much be doing something right as our unemployment rates are a near as high a other cities in the US. Over all time will tell as she’s already started cleaning house in the cabinet indeed.
Well that’s about it for now. No telling when I will be writing on here again. I was thinking about shutting it down but I have been getting replies from my close friends asking when I going to post a new posting. A lot still going on in my life and the blog has been put to the bottom of the list thus far. Over all life feels good to me at a rip old age of 49 and looking forward to a better and brighter year indeed.

HAPPY PRIDE MONTH

WOW another year has passed and it’s time for the US to celebrate during this month that gave the GLBT there freedom today. Still there is a long way to go we’re better off today than we were years ago running around in the closet scared to really be who you are. Fear of loosing your job or jailed and committed as most thought it was a disease or mental problem. It’s funny how everyone what to rule the world. Thanks god we have liberals who are standing up for Gay rights, especially in the marriage arena. Although we’ve making head way with this subject it’s slow going. I have double standard towards me as being a black man it’s found upon to be Black and gay. Although we know there are plenty of gay men in the world, its one of the reason why the Down Low came into play. The ones who are on the down low could be married and with children but still looking for something they are missing in their life. Saying they aren’t gay is and obvious statement as the way I feel about it when you lay down with a woman you are straight and when you lay down with a man you are gay. It’s like Bill Clinton saying I didn’t have sexual relations with that woman. One can debate about that but can you justify what you are doing? The way I see it a dog is still a dog. However it’s not just backs who run around as Hispanics aren’t innocent either. The Hispanic culture is more about family, good catholic back ground and I like that. However when a family member announces he is gay you are ousted in a heart beat. Will we as gay men and women every find peace with in this nation we live in? I don’t know. However we can stride to get here by celebrating what got us to this point. Pride is something we all should be proud of and remember out Queen Sisters and brothers for standing up to New York’s finest. Here we are close to forty years and for me I can say it’s great to be a gay man. For those who are interested to attend the parade here in Houston which is held at night by the way, it’s always held on the last weekend of the month. This year it’s Saturday the twenty seventh. This is usually and all day event with parade to follow before night falls and well into the night. It’s usually over around eleven o’clock. Again have a happy month my friends. Until fingers meet keys.

Memorial Day Weekend Is Coming.

Hey All
As you can see it’s been a while since I’ve written there. Try as I may I just can’t seem to find time to keep jotting things down these days. I’ve often thought of dropping the blog all together since my father is doing so well these days. There has been a lot going on in the Houston area. For one it’s been really wonderful weather the past few days. More like convertible weather which kind of makes me wish I still had mine. For now I will settle for what I have and be on with it. Hell the way the auto makers are dropping out of site it’s a wonder will we have dealers to go to after a while. Mother’s Day was really wonderful as the whole family was in present. We had some great BBQ and of course packed plates to go. I’m got pictures to edit and new articles also at the editors. However he’s slowing up my progress to get the next issue out. Trouble in the family and with this Swine Fu going around I can understand his concerns. So far none of my family member contracted anything as there are three family members who are teachers.

It makes you really wonder how all this has come to be. I have never heard of a swine flu until all this attention of it. Kind of like when AIDs came be. People were calling it the gay disease just as they are calling the swine fu a Hispanic disease. Folks are so quick to blame one race or another. My question is when will the madness end? I guess the world wouldn’t go round if it did. No real plans this weekend as I have to work on Monday so not celebration for me this holiday day unless it’s over the weekend. I’ve wanting to see the new Star Trek movie along with the X-Men Origins. There are a lot of them hitting the theaters over the summer months and for the most part I’ll wait until they come out on DVD. One I was really looking forward to seeing was Watchmen and to me it was a total disappointment, to long and slow at times. As they say you can’t judge a book by its cover. My boss is on vacation starting today and the office has been so relaxed. I’m really not looking forward to the red headed witch to return but such as life. To be honest she needs to go a head and retire. In the meantime I’ll maintain and move forward as I’m doing ok and thankful I have a government job and not worry about getting laid off or fired. Well that’s about it for now so until fingers meet keys again all have a good holiday and stay safe as well.
